Seeing it in front is an experience that is not forgotten. The Main Coon is truly a huge, imposing, regal cat. Its posture is majestic, it holds its head high, its tail is large and bushy at half height, its wide legs resting firmly on the ground with the role of an ancient warrior. But as often happens with animals, the appearance is deceiving and despite the appearance that inspires a little fear, the Maine Coon is a real good-natured.
This American cat that according to some breeders can even weigh fourteen kilos, has a docile and playful character, never aggressive, so much so that it is considered the most suitable cat for a house full of children.
The Maine Coon, the name itself says, comes from Maine, in the northeastern United States, on the border with Canada. His homeland is therefore a very cold place, characterized by very cold winters and the physique of this big cat is structured precisely to survive the most adverse climatic conditions. The hair is long and thick, so thick that it becomes practically impenetrable and wraps the cat like a tabard.
In winter the fur can measure up to six to seven centimeters and is more luxuriant under the neck, on the belly and on the legs to protect the body in the snow. Instead it is shorter on the back so as to allow it to crawl through the vegetation in search of prey.
Nicknamed raccoon cat because a legend wants it even descended from the cross between a cat and a raccoon, which is completely biologically impossible given that the two animals are not of the same species and even belong to two different families. For its appearance and for its size, the Maine coon immediately brings to mind a resident of the great forests. It really seems that its true origins derive from the wild cats once brought from Scandinavia by the Vikings.
We would expect a deep voice from a cat of this type, a dark meow very similar to a roar and instead the Maine Coon has a weak and high-pitched voice, like that of a puppy. And he uses it constantly, muttering and commenting on every movement, especially when he is in the company of his master. This makes Maine Coon one of the most talkative cats ever.
He does not like being alone much, he always tries to be part of the family's activities. It can rarely be found in an empty room, because it constantly follows those who live in the house, taking place to rest only in the most popular places. Here he becomes a perfect living room cat, ready to curl up on the sofa when someone watches television. For him, the important thing is to be in company.
